system working again...

Hey guys, I got my system up and running again...

the problem I was having was that he "currrent" base tar file is screwed, so I checked the list archive and found a message from matt porter saying exactly that -- the current .tgz was broken. Matt porter's .tgz file works much better:
http://master.debian.org/~porter/

now, everything (almost) is working well....except for a couple things i've noticed so far:
1. this is probably not something wrong, but what does it mean when apt tells me that some packages have been left behind?

2. here is the output from apt-get install emacs, and apt-get install emacs20, respectively.

Package emacs has no available version, but exists in the database.
This typically means that the package was mentioned in a dependency and
never uploaded, or that it is an obsolete package.
E: Package emacs has no installation candidate

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
emacs20: Depends: liblockfile0 but it is not installable
Depends: liblockfile0 (>= 0.1-1) but it is not installable
E: Sorry, broken packages

3. what package contains the X binaries? I have xserver-common, xfree86-base, and xserver-fbdev installed, but am still missing many binaries/files.

4. while I'm at t, does anyone have any experience with using mule (japanese in particular) with emacs, and getting japanese fonts set up with debian? are there packages for this that I could use?

Thanks,
Josh
