Background ------------- Applicant writes: I am a researcher at the department for Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University in Sweden. I am involved in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva, that just this week saw it first colliding beams. The requirements for analysis and storage of the huge amount of data collected by the LHC experiments have necessitated the introduction of grid computing. I have been involved in the development of grid middleware and also done packaging of these software components for deployment at computing centres connected to the Nordic Data Grid Facility (NDGF), which is part of the worldwide LHC computing Grid (WLCG). The packages I maintain in Debian today, as a Debian Maintainer, are mainly components from the Globus toolkit, this is a core set of libraries and tools that implement GSI security, gridftp and other grid computing standards. Many higher level grid middleware components are built on top of these libraries. 3. Philosophy and Procedures ----------------------------- Mattias has a good understanding of Debian's philosophy and procedures and answered all my questions about the social contract, DFSG, BTS, etc. in a good way. Mattias committed to uphold the SC and DFSG in his Debian work and accepts the DMUP. 4. Tasks and Skills ------------------- Mattias has a good understanding of the technical side of Debian. He is maintainer of two many packages to list them here. He is a DM, so his latest uploads have been done by himself. I had a look at some packages and they are in a good shape. Mattias also answered my other questions regarding T&S without problems. 5. Recommendation ----------------- I recommend to accept Mattias as a Debian Developer.
