2. Background
-------------
Applicant writes:
As you by no doubt have guessed I am born and raised in Sweden, the
southern parts. I came to Debian at my first job after high school. It
was a very Windows centered environment but we had a linux server for
some random email stuff. I got let in there to do some maintenance
because noone else was doing it. I really didn't do much and was not
really learning anything. When I got into college some years later I
soon got together with some other peers interested in linux or already
users. By spring 2004 I decided to get me a linux box to run my IRC
screen and mail on to learn stuff. By autumn 2005 I switched away from
my windows based laptop and since then I use linux exclusively; at home,
laptops and workstation, at work and in associations where I advocate
the open and free nature of FLOSS.
For Debian I started to adopt debconf translations late May 2008, I do
not remeber how but I catched the link to the debconf tracker page
somewhere and noticed that it was using po files and I had seen some of
those and edited them with kbabel so I decided to try and do an updated
to some package because I thought it was needed. Got good response from
the packager and then continued. Got in contact with the d-i18n ML in
the middle of a NMU campaign bubulle was running and used that to boost
the progress of the Swedish po debconf translation. It took about two
full years to reach back to 100% done po debconf translations. I think
sv was in like 70% or something when I started. By now I have done about
half the debconf translations available in side.
Other than debconf I have worked with the translation of the release
notes for Lenny, it was really under hard pressure to get done as I got
a mail from the last translator like a week before the deadline and had
never worked with a large translation like that. It took me about four
eight hour work days to get it all done and reread.
Regarding my goals with working in Debian translation I want to be able
to push the early adoption of free software in Sweden, we generally have
a broad knowledge in English here but to get young people and
institutions (schools!) to use Debian instead of the alternatives I am
certain that there have to be a good translation to penetrate in a good
way. This is among my long term goals.
Other than that I will in the short term focus on keeping debconf 100%
done, I will start working on getting po4a 100% done as well and I will
continue to work with the release notes and probably adopt the
installation guide from Daniel Nylander. I've had some loose talks with
bubulle about doing coordination work to lessen his burden but that
hasn't really kicked off yet. I've done the same talks to Andrew Lee
with regards to doing packages for LXDE as I am doing release management
upstream there and it would be a fairly obvious connection to help with
the packages in Debian when I have the day to day knowledge about the
LXDE packages real status.
3. Philosophy and Procedures
-----------------------------
Martin has a good understanding of Debian's philosophy and procedures
and answered all my questions about the social contract,
DFSG, BTS, etc. in a good way. Martin committed to uphold the SC and DFSG

4. Tasks and Skills

Martin is applying as a non-uploading DD. He has been doing a massive amount
of work on the Swedish translations for almost 3 years, both translating,
coaching new translators and building a proper Swedish translation team.

I recommend to accept Martin as a Debian Developer.
