| AFAIK those mails are not publically available. Could you post the
| details here please?

No prob. I'll just cut and paste. The DD email request had the 'write this
knowing that it may be public one day' so I have no issue making it public.

| Why do you advocate this person? (please provide a 5-10 line summary).
|
| You are encouraged to take questions such as the following into account
| but you're not limited to answering these:
| - How have they contributed to Debian already?

Manuel has already been instrumental for 'pkg-openmpi', the Alioth Project I
started in order to get Debian's Open MPI packages back into shape. [ Open
MPI is the sucecssor to LAM, has wide support and active upstream
development. Our packages for it were essentially buggy and orphaned. This is
now much better. ]

Manuel has also been very helpful in testing the slurm-llnl packages (for
batch / queue management on clusters) that Gennaro Oliva is maintaining (and
which I sponsor). As these use a cluster, not everybody can or will work on
this stuff.

Manuel has prepared many of the package release which I basically only needed
to rebuild -- see http://changelog.debian.net/openmpi for details.

He knows what he is doing, he is motivated, he learns quickly, and he gets
stuff done. Also, he works in the debian-science area where we do not have
that many maintainers, so goo contributions are very welcome.

| - What do they intend to do for Debian in the future?

I believe he has a number of other WNPP / ITPs. He is a graduate student in
(IIRC) Bioinformatics, so these have a science bent and some open issues,
often with licenses.

I have no doubt that he will contribute other packages.

| - How do they interact with others, such as users and other developers?

Very well. He has responded quickly and in a friendly and constructive manner
to several bug reports, I have also seen him in polite and effective
exchanges with upstream.

So in sum: Two thumbs way up. Manuel would be a great addition to Debian.
