GFDL is not free for debian, and my pkg is for main. You could package the documentation in a separate "-doc" package that is in non-free and Suggest (or maybe Recommend) it from the core package. You could get the owners of the copyright to relicense the work. You could get debian-legal to review the licensing and see if this use of the GFDL is appropriate for main. Sometimes a license that is normally appropriate for main can be disallowed due to the interpretation of the copyright holder. (ISTR, Pine's license being like this.)
