RFS: slurm-llnl and munge
Hello everyone,
I'm requesting a sponsor that can review the package named "slurm-llnl"
version 1.0.1-1 and consider its inclusion in the Debian distribution.
The software is called slurm and it is an open-source cluster resource
management and job scheduling system that strives to be simple,
scalable, portable, fault-tolerant, and interconnect agnostic.
It has been packaged as slurm-llnl because there is already a Debian
package called slurm.
It is distributed under the gpl license and it is enough stable to be
adopted by many Linux cluster vendors.
I would really like this package to be included in the Debian
distribution because there is no other free software with similar
features at the moment: all the other cluster resource management tools
(condor, torque, lsf, pbs, etc.) are not free.

Slurm need to have a "auth" plugin. Currently, only three authentication
plugins are available: "auth/none," "auth/authd," and "auth/munge." The
"auth/none" plugin is built and used by default but it can be used only
for testing purposes. One of either authd, or munge should be installed
in order to get slurm to work.
I have successfully tested the "auth/munge" plugin and it need another
free software called munge.
MUNGE (MUNGE Uid 'N' Gid Emporium) is a service for creating and
validating credentials in order to allow a process to securely
authenticate the UID and GID of another local or remote process within
a security realm. Clients can create and validate these credentials
without the use of root privileges, reserved ports, or platform-specific
methods. Munge is distributed under the gpl license.
Since slurm can't productively work without munge or authd I ask the
sponsor to check and consider uploading the package "munge" version
0.5-1. A preliminary deb can be found at the following address:
