Even if this might be a cool project and worth packaging I think that
Martin was just seeking something which is quick to be installed
(=packaged) and thus the suggestion to the existing packages (like
amide and others) seem better to me ... even if I absolutely can not
comment on any of the Dicom packages.  From my perspective some
imagemagic like thing which does a dicom2png would fit the purpose
as well (if Martin answers the question "If you just want to show
of with some images" answers with "yes").

It would be cool if somebody would work on packaging ...
