You're on an i686-compatible (and therefore on an i386-compatible). I have never read it, but I suppose this would be what you're looking for: http://www.us.debian.org/releases/stable/installmanual My personal advise would be to simply throw yourself at it, and expect lots of problems getting the more tropical hardware to work. Perhaps you would want to look up your machine on this site: http://www.linux-laptop.net/ Keep your backup and your Windows-CD handy, in case you depend on your computer. Good luck and have fun.
