IBM T21 running 2.6 and 3.1 and screen hangs
Hi,
I upgraded to 3.1 to pick up the latest MPI-2 code to do some development
work over the summer, and while I was at it built first the 2.6.11.4, and
the 2.6.11.6 kernels.
Using xconfig, I set the APM and ACPI values to "off", and built working
kernels.
Without graphical display manager, the laptop was stable and useful, but
I am fond of having four xterms rather than one, but with a graphical
display manager I experienced system hangs, with both the -4, and -6 kernels.
I'm sure this is a well-known, and well-solved problem, but I have to ask,
as Google hasn't dropped a clue in my lap(top).
The time and number of mouse events to hang is a variable, but a "short" one,
with a hang coming in between 5 and 15 minutes of not very vigorous mousing
about with a browser, running an aquarium screensaver (or "hanger"), or just
moving xterms about.
Clues please,
Eric
