Do this kernel-image has apic enabled? If yes, you'll have to go for the 
sources and compile your own and be sure to disable these:

# CONFIG_X86_UP_APIC is not set
# CONFIG_X86_UP_IOAPIC is not set

I had similar problems on a C810 and apparently they also exist on 
inspiron 8100.  See also
