Bug#1036644: linux-image-6.1.0-9-amd64: System crashes. Netconsole reports CPUs not responding to MCE broadcast



Hi all,

I may have the same issue since upgrading from Debian-11 to Debian-12 testing on 2023-04-28.
I'm not sure if 6.1.20 (linux-image-6.1.0-7) was running stable.
But 6.1.27 (linux-image-6.1.0-9) is definitely not running stable.
I'm currently back to 5.10.179 (linux-image-5.10.0-23 by Debian-11), to verify that no recent defect in the hardware is causing this.

Symptom:
My system just reboots after a few days. (maybe once a week)

In theory I can do a git bisect. But in practice this would take weeks, because the bug happens just once a week in average.

   tell!

And has someone searched for similar reports elsewhere or created an upstream bugreport at kernel.org?

This one reports Linux-5.9 as working and Linux-5.10 as broken. So it might be another issue.

I found these tools.

I'm not yet sure if they can be of help debugging this. But the mentioned sysfs path sounds like it could be used to trigger a MCE, might causing the bug then.

DOES ANYONE KNOW if and how this "machinecheck" feature in sysfs could be related!? Maybe lowering "check_interval" or "monarch_timeout" in machinecheck will cause the bug to strike more often, so a git bisect could be possible!?
Or raising those values may workaround the problem!?
(I'll try that next, except you tell me this is unrelated)

It's a low power system which I keep running 24/7.
(it's attached to my TV as media center and running small webservices)

Hardware
Mainboard: ASRock J4105-ITX (Mini-ITX)
CPU: Intel Celeron J4105 (embedded on the mainboard)
GPU: Intel GeminiLake [UHD Graphics 600] (part of CPU)
Memory: 4 Gi
BIOS: version 1.40 (1.60 available)

The system ran stable with Debian-11 in this configuration for a long time. That's why I'm currently not considering a BIOS update. (a BIOS update would be an additional variable making the puzzle harder to solve)
