Version: 5.10.4-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Intel NUC7i5BNH using internal CIR (Consumer InfraRed)

Device setup;
~$ ir-keytable
Found /sys/class/rc/rc0/ with:
        Name: ITE8708 CIR transceiver
        Driver: ite-cir
        Default keymap: rc-rc6-mce
        Input device: /dev/input/event7
        LIRC device: /dev/lirc0
        Attached BPF protocols: Operation not permitted
        Supported kernel protocols: lirc rc-5 rc-5-sz jvc sony nec sanyo mce_kbd rc-6 sharp xmp imon
        Enabled kernel protocols: lirc sony
        bus: 25, vendor/product: 1283:0000, version: 0x0000
        Repeat delay = 500 ms, repeat period = 125 ms

With current bullseye kernel, 5.10.0-1-amd64, all button pushes on IR handset (sony protocol) are duplicated.

Output from ~$ evemu-record /dev/input/event7

(EV_KEY "1" indicates key down, "0" key up. Repeated key down shown after approx. 1 second is not a physical key press, output shown is one click of "OK" key)

With previous kernel, 5.9.0-5-amd64, behaviour was as expected, no duplication. The obvious difference between kernels is much longer receiving timeout.

Previous kernel;
~$ ir-ctl -f
Receive features /dev/lirc0:
 - Device can receive raw IR
 - Can report decoded scancodes and protocol
 - Resolution 8 microseconds
 - Set receive carrier
 - Receiving timeout 16000 microseconds
 - Can set receiving timeout min 1181 microseconds, max 1250000 microseconds
Send features /dev/lirc0:
 - Device can send raw IR
 - IR scancode encoder
 - Set carrier
 - Set duty cycle

Current kernel;
~ir-ctl -f
Receive features /dev/lirc0:
 - Device can receive raw IR
 - Can report decoded scancodes and protocol
 - Resolution 8 microseconds
 - Set receive carrier
 - Receiving timeout 1180480 microseconds
 - Can set receiving timeout min 1180480 microseconds, max 1250000 microseconds
Send features /dev/lirc0:
 - Device can send raw IR
 - IR scancode encoder
 - Set carrier
 - Set duty cycle

Timeout is already at minimum allowed value.

I am not certain that this is the cause but can report that IR remote control has failed on this model of Intel NUC with 5.10.0-1-amd64 kernel.

Thank you for the update. I looked at the changes to the ite-cir
driver in 5.10 stable updates, and it appears that the fix for this
was:

commit e1def45b5291278590bc3033cc518bf5c964a18d
Author: Matthias Reichl <hias@horus.com>
Date:   Sat Jan 9 21:10:55 2021 +0100

    media: rc: ite-cir: fix min_timeout calculation

which went into version 5.11-rc6 (originally) and then 5.10.13.

Ben.
