Package: src:linux
Version: 4.9.65-3+deb9u2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

Installed linux-image-4.9.0-5-amd64 version 4.9.65-3+deb9u2

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?

Open a gnome-terminal window, wait a while then type something

   * What was the outcome of this action?

Sometimes one of the two connected monitors will suddenly go black for a
few seconds. (It's happened three or four times as I type this bug report).

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

That the monitor not go black.

This bug didn't happen with the previous version of the kernel,
linux-image-4.9.0-4-amd64

The system has intel graphics, one displayport connector. Two monitors are
connected via a 3 port displayport hub.

No messages appear in the kernel log or journal when the screen goes black.
One FIFO underrun message is in the kernel log, but it's many minutes before
the screen flashing:

Jan 9 14:17:45 cymric kernel: [ 140.418643] [drm:intel_set_cpu_fifo_underrun_reporting [i915]] *ERROR* uncleared fifo underrun on pipe A
Jan 9 14:17:45 cymric kernel: [ 140.418655] [drm:ironlake_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun
