I have tried

- "post-down /sbin/ethtool -s $IFACE wol g" in /etc/network/interfaces
- "NETDOWN=no" in /etc/default/halt

I can see the network card remaining on upon shutdown. The LEDs flash when I send the WOL magic packet, but the computer does not wake.

The same set-up, when booting and then shutting down Windows XP, wakes the computer without problems, so I am sure there is no issue with motherboard bios settings or magic packet.

There is another recent report by another user that the sky2 driver is broken for the same Marvell 88E8053 ethernet chip:

http://lkml.org/lkml/2011/11/2/143

I would be grateful for a solution.

Kind Regards
Nick
