I have noticed this and cannot explain.

It does. The initrd doesn't have rmmod, I used modprobe -r, and the
busybox sleep cannot sleep for 0.1 seconds, I used 1. After this
operation, attempts to to DHCP fail until the module is removed and
loadd again.

I have pulled kernel and initrd from
http://d-i.debian.org/daily-images/amd64/daily/netboot/netboot.tar.gz
and have booted the machine via PXE with this kernel and initrd. This
is a 3.0.0-1-amd64 kernel, and its behavior is different, but simliar.
This time, the first DHCP gets through, but subsequent network
operations (including a second try to run DHCP) fail the same way.
Again, this is fixed by removing and re-loading the module.
However, the installer complains after doing DHCP that no kernel
modules were found, which is probably due to a mismatch between the
kernel used by this version of the installer and the kernel version
available in the archive. I guess, that was to be expected.
Is there anything more I can do?
Greetings
Marc
