Bug#520494: virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.26-1-686: userland vs. kernel module versions again
Package: virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.26-1-686
Version: 2.6.26+1.6.6-dfsg-6
Severity: important
Hi,
This sounds a lot like a return of bug #502346,
but I opened a new one because the details of the
problem are different.
The effect is similar -- one needs to build the
virtualbox modules from source in order to use
the package, with m-a a-i virtualbox-ose; but
unlike in previous versions, the program no longer
suggests it, and a user needs to search the web
or some such to find this solution. Thus, the
'important' severity; while the bug doesn't
render the package completely unusable, it does
make it hard to use.
One more problem to consider is the version
numbering -- as you can see, the current version
of the compiled module offered in sid (and Lenny)
is 2.6.26+1.6.6-dfsg-6 (based on the kernel
version). The version m-a built for me is
2.1.4-dfsg-1+2.6.26-13 (based on VirtualBox
version), which is lower. I can see the problems
coming already.
Thanks,
Shai.
