Yes, but you'd solve that by making initramfs a dependency of the kernel image, not the modules, same as for any other (non-xen) kernel.

I think the whole idea of the modules thing is so that you can install them in the domU without needing the kernel image (and it's dependancies), otherwise what's the point?

The kernel image should depend on the modules and the initramfs tools, but I can't see a need for the modules to depend on the initramfs tools.

In some cases you have your domU's using an initrd too, but that should only warrant a suggestion, not a requirement... or maybe this is always a requirement? I always build my initrd's from dom0 when required.

Yes, I was bitten by the fact that there was no initrd, do you know if there is a reason why one wasn't generated?
