Bug#377677: No sound from Creative Sound Blaster 16 PCI with 2.6 kernel

Package: kernel
Version: 2.6.8-2-686
Severity: important

I have installed Debian 3.1 r2. I initially installed the 2.4 kernel and I got sound from my soundcard. I then added the 2.6 kernel and configured LILO so I can boot either the 2.4 or 2.6 kernel. I still get sound when I boot the 2.4 kernel but don't get any sound when I boot the 2.6 kernel.

My system has a QDI Advance 9 motherboard with a Pentium III processor. The soundcard is a Creative Sound Blaster 16 PCI.

The output from lspci is

The output from lspci -vsb is

Flags: bus master, slow devsel, latency 64, IRQ 5
	I/O ports at ec00 [size=64]
	Capabilities: <available only to root>

The output from uname -a for 2.4 and 2.6 are
Linux advance9 2.4.27-2-686 #1 Wed Aug 17 10:34:09 UTC 2005 i686 GNU/Linux
Linux advance9 2.6.8-2-686 #1 Tue Aug 16 13:22:48 UTC 2005 i686 GNU/Linux

I have attached the output from lsmod under both 2.4 and 2.6 kernels. They are quite different but in both cases the module es1371 (which I think is the soundcard driver) is loaded.

I created a shell script p to to play a short .wav file. This contains
cat /proc/interrupts
/usr/bin/time -p bplay ~bruce/ringin.wav
cat /proc/interrupts

Under 2.4 it takes real 0.90, user 0.00, sys 0.01 to play the .wav file. Interrupt 5 (which belongs to es1371) increased by 155.

Under 2.6 it takes real 1.49, user 0.00, sys 0.00 to play the .wav file. Interrupt 5 (which belongs to Ensoniq AudioPCI) increased by 2.

I have attached the output from dmesg under both 2.4 and 2.6 kernels. The dmesg for 2.4 contains
es1371: version v0.32 time 10:50:24 Aug 17 2005
PCI: Found IRQ 5 for device 00:0b.0
es1371: found chip, vendor id 0x1274 device id 0x5880 revision 0x02
es1371: found es1371 rev 2 at io 0xec00 irq 5
es1371: features: joystick 0x0

The dmesg for 2.6 only contains an equivelant of the first line. It does does not contain equivelants of the remaining lines.
