Personally I find that option to be quite annoying - especially when
watching DVDs on my laptop (I haven't found a way to shut it off).
But that's just my personal opinion. I suggest you file a (wishlist or
greater) bugreport on this - especially if I am mistaken and the
lightshow can be easily turned off.
