Sarge: Kernel 2.6.8 on 486DX33/aha1542 sudden resets
Hello,
does anyone know about sudden resets with kernel-image-2.6.8-2-386 on a
486DX33? The machine ran ultra stable with an old lfs system until I
decided to put Sarge with Kernel 2.6 on it. :-)
The error can be nicely triggered when doing some disk activity (rm -r on
a big subtree, e. g. squid cache, unpacking a .deb or something). The
error is independent of ext2 or ext3 activity.
The machine is as stated a 486DX33, has a wd network card, an adaptec 1542
scsi controller with five disks attached and an ET4000 VGA card. It's
equipped with 32MB RAM and can swap into 72MB of swapspace on two disks.
Has anyone actually tested this kernel on old 486 hardware? It would be
nice if the error could be reproduced by someone else. Perhaps memory too
tight? Unfortunately this is something I cannot upgrade with this machine.
Thanks for any hint/help!
