Bug#261765: kernel: pts/n climbs, preventing use of /etc/securetty

Package: kernel
Version: N/A; reported 2004-07-27
Severity: normal

-- System Information
Debian Release: 3.0
Architecture: i386
Kernel: Linux link 2.4.20-mm #1 Tue Feb 24 17:47:00 EST 2004 i586
Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C

Hi,

pts/n climbs, preventing use of /etc/securetty

 4840 pts/65 S 0:02 xterm -ls -e telnet link
 4854 pts/68 Ss+ 0:01 telnet link

See what I mean ???

After booting new kernel I can't login to remote box
I see /etc/securetty doesn't have pts/20 ... why should it?

Though I have only a couple terminals open every attempt
to rlogin to even the same host cause pts/x to climb - even
though there are no such entries in /dev/pts/*

I've temporarily disabled securetty for /etc/pam.d/rlogin.
Don't like it, but it works.

Thanks,
