I've plugged it into a nearby laptop, and am able to blank the disc with no
problem, so I believe the drive is OK. The laptop is running a stock
2.6.7-1-386 kernel and hotplug 0.0.20040329-1, and uses the ohci_hcd driver.
The desktop, which has trouble, is using a 2.6.7-1 which I built from Debian
sources + the skas3 patch, the same hotplug, and uhci_hcd.
