No, I did not install any other kernel related package. My /etc/modules usually tries to load: ide-cd ide-detect dmasound_pmac # necessary for debian 2.4.25 for irda macserial # for debian 2.6.6-5 to get network bmac lsmod does not show mol. I rebooted with other kernels in between (maybe once having the 2.6.6 kernel point towards the new initrd), could that be the cause?
