Bug#283098: kernel-image-2.6.8-1-386: Problem transferring file from ftp://space.mit.edu
Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-1-386
Version: 2.6.8-1
Severity: normal
Hi,
This report also applies to kernel-image-2.6.9-1-386.
I have an altogether reproducible problem downloading e.g. the file
ftp://space.mit.edu/pub/davis/jed/v0.99/pre-0.99-17/jed-B0.99-17.tar.gz
The download starts out like thunder and lightning and then comes to an
abrupt halt, and over many, many tries I have never been able to complete
it.
If I shift to kernel-image-2.6.7-1-386 there is no problem! And since my
setup is absolutely identical for the three kernel versions, I hope you'll
pardon me for assuming that it is something which has broken between kernel
versions 2.6.7 and 2.6.8.
Maybe it is related to the driver module for my network card? I am using a
D-Link, model DFE-538TX NIC for which I am using the 8139too kernel module
If it is somehow completely unrelated to the kernel and rather is down to
some other networking error, I apologize for the noise, but since I am using
stock Debian kernels in identical setups in all three cases, it seems
plausible to at least suspect a kernel issue.
If you care to look into it, I am available for more info if you need it.
Thanks,
Morten
