I'm a bit curious about the /usr/local/qt and /usr/local/kde though. I
did try to build KDE3 from source once, but the configure kept getting
confused between the KDE2 I had installed and the KDE3 I was trying to
build so I gave up.
apt-get did install the libs that Magnus recommended, but I'm a little
hesitant about doing a full dist-upgrade for two reasons.
1) I'm on a 56k modem and per minute phone charges. Just updating KDE
cost me serveral hours of call time.
2) I had to install X4.2.0 from sources to use my GVX1 card, which is
still only 2D accelerated in XFree86. I also use the demo Accellerated-X
driver from xig for 3D acceleration and stereo-scopic support. I don't
want to screw either of these X servers up with Brandons X4.1.0 I know
Brandon's stuff is quite good, but my card is not supported at all in
4.1.0 and Brandon is still working out problems with 4.1.0 to bother
with 4.2.0
My system is getting more and more mixed as I use and improve it. If it
weren't for the excessive down-load times, I'm just getting to the point
I'd like to try Sorceror for a change. Debian is great, but it gets
rather dated coming upto a freeze.
Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated, since I HATE HATE HATE
using Mozilla mail and don't know enough to use anything else but kmail.
Cheers,
John Gay
