don't invest too much work into kdm 2.2 for the moment - the whole
config stuff will change significantly in some days/weeks.

it will probably look like that:
kdmrc - old kdmrc, kdm-config, Xservers, Xaceess in one file
kdmstat - the [Previous] section of kdmrc, so the greeter does not need
  to modify kdmrc
kdmkeys (?) - optional, secret xdmauth keys (nobody uses it anyway ...)

the "old" files, which will stay, where they are (i.e., in $(XDMDIR)
without the debian patches):
Xsetup - possibly optional, as i want to make a direct invokation of
kdmdesktop by the greeter an option - but this does not affect debian,
as it does some additional voodoo in Xsetup anyway (hmm - running
Xmodmap and spawning an xconsole could be made native options as well)
Xresources - gone by default, as it specifies resources for the xdm
greeter and chooser - kde apps don't care for it. but maybe, somebody
uses an esoteric background generator, which obeys X resources (as
  opposed to kdmdesktop).
Xstartup/Xreset - well, yes - i guess, they have to stay. :)
Xwilling - (hey - did you know, that it's now possible with kdm? :))
mostly optional. kdm has already a built-in generator for halfways
informative "willing to manage" messages (cpu speed & system load).

so far my humble plans ...
if somebody has suggestions/requests - _now_ is the moment to bring
them to me.

greetings
