Deprecation of *-gcj packages
Hello,
Maybe I am missing a point but I have the feeling that the -gcj packages
are now a bit useless.
gcj does not seem a very active project [1] and my perception is that
not many people are using gcj packages instead
of the "java package".
For example, two "famous" java packages providing -gcj version
http://qa.debian.org/popcon.php?package=ant
http://qa.debian.org/popcon.php?package=libsaxon-java
have very low usage of the gcj package compared to the java one.
So, I would like to suggest two things:
1) Update the Java policy to forbid the creation of gcj packages
2) Fill bugs on the following packages to ask their removals.
ant-gcj
ant-optional-gcj
bsh-gcj
docbook-xsl-saxon-gcj
ecj-gcj
eclipse-openoffice.org-core-gcj
eclipse-openoffice.org-java-gcj
libbcmail-java-gcj
libbcpg-java-gcj
libbcpkix-java-gcj
libbcprov-java-gcj
libbctsp-java-gcj
libdb5.1-java-gcj
libdb5.3-java-gcj
libecj-java-gcj
libitext-java-gcj
libjaxp1.3-java-gcj
libsac-java-gcj
libsaxon-java-gcj
libswt-gtk-3-java-gcj
libxerces2-java-gcj
libxml-commons-resolver1.1-java-gcj
postgresql-9.1-pljava-gcj
Any opinions ?
Thanks,
Sylvestre
