Hi Dukes,

I'd like to thanks Takashi Okamoto for his great work in moving java
packages to main.

As you can see: http://java.debian.net/index.php/MovingJavaToMain we
have a lot of packages that were in contrib who are now in main. This is
really important for Debian.

I think the next step is to have a good javadoc alternative for
libservlet2.3-java so it can go to main (Stefan, is it the only problem
for libservlet2.3-java not in main?), then, a lot of other packages can
follow (see packages that depends on libservlet2.3-java).

On the grill:

o two packages are waiting for ftpmasters to move to main:
. libcommons-pool-java -- A set of objects that implement the
                              pooling pattern for java objects
    . libcommons-jexl-java -- expression language engine

o three packages are ready to upload:
    . libcommons-dbcp-java -- Database Connection Pooling Services
. libcommons-cli-java -- API for working with the command line
                             arguments and options
. libcommons-validator-java -- ease and speed development and
                                   maintenance of validation rules

o four packages could go to main:

. werken.xpath -- JDOM XPath Engine (was stuck because of jdom)
. velocity -- Java-based template engine for web application
. libcommons-jxpath-java -- manipulate javabean using XPath syntax

General BBQ:

o Ean told me he will set up a collaborative system to co-maintain
kaffe at the end of the week, so we'll be able to work more actively
on kaffe in the future. Kaffe 1.1.5 should be out in a week or two
    with many progress.

o SableVM did release and made a lot of progress. Also, I saw they
resync with classpath 0.09 which resync with gnujaxp so the xml
entity problem will be solved in the next release of SableVM. We
have to investigate more to be able to run ant with SableVM.

o I submitted a patch to make it possible to build java to native with
ant using gcj (I patched a class made by... Takashi Okamoto! ;-)). I
asked Stefan Gybas to patch the Debian package but got no news at
the moment. Note that: 1=B0 the patch was not commented nor accepted
upstream AFAYK; 2=B0 it does not work at the moment because of a
problem in gcj. So applying the patch make it possible to do
    it... but it fails :p

o I'm working on gjdoc to let it understand (or WARN but not FAIL) the
javadoc arguments. It's important if we want it to be a drop
replacement of the proprietary javadoc tool. I also applied two or
three times to enter the dev team of cp-tools (the home of gjdoc), I
already signed the assignment, but got no news at the moment. It's
sad because there are some patches pending (well, the debian package
patch upstream). Note that ATM gjdoc only works with kaffe and it's
a real problem! (everybody can investigate on this and try to make
gjdoc run with every free runtimes)

Where everybody can help?

1=B0 There is a section marked 'Unknown', that's where I don't know why
the package is in contrib. You can download the source package
(apt-get source srcname) and look at debian/control and debian/rules
to see if the build-dependencies and dependencies are correct with
the CLASSPATH or applications used in debian/rules. If it's not, file
a bug. If you think it could go to main, file wishlist bugs. If you
can, provide hints or patches. And also, mention the MovingJavaToMain
   URL: http://java.debian.net/index.php/MovingJavaToMain
Forward your bug reports to debian-java mailing list.

2=B0 Audit of all the java packages! I'm not sure every java package in
contrib are on the MovingJavaToMain wiki page. If a package is
missing, add it to the wiki and send the information on the list. If
you do not want to add it your self on the wiki, write it on your
   mail).

Many thanks for your help in the Debian project,

Cheers,
