But you forgot: - DNS, and not only that nice local DNS server you run, but also other DNS servers that have IP's from your range. - Firewalls - Databases Or actually everything that has IP's in them. Some people also then like to simply hardcode stuff etc... Remember, 10k devices across a multi organisation site, people-who-actually-don't-want-to-do-anything and other nice political issues. You really don't want to renumber in those cases.... And yes you can claim "oh then you just put DNS names in there", well that would be an ideal world indeed and is simply not always possible.
