The Hurd terminal problem.
I think I have the problem isolated.
The system will only boot into single-user mode.
The error is
#/sbin/fsck: /: Cannot make readonly: Device or resource busy
#Unknown error during fsck (exit status 50)
ctrl-D gets it into multi-user mode.
However, if the filesystem has not unmounted on power off and is checked
on the next reboot, then everything works properly and the system ends up
in multi-user mode.
