The best answer that I can give is that compatibility is an admirable
goal, but has to be balanced against the need for an elegant,
extensible, and well-integrated system.
In the end, though, the only thing that matters is *who will do the
work*, not what grand ideas they have. I have a bunch of things that
I'd like to do with the Hurd, but whether they happen or not depends
mainly on whether somebody does them.
The people doing real work on the Hurd (I'm not quite one of them) are
very aware of all the good things they could be doing. It is less a
question of foresight and more a question of time.
If andybody is interested in helping contribute to specific tasks,
then feel free to write me privately, and I'll help give you some
direction so that your contributions are effective.
Have fun,
