I am one of that people; I think the Neal's Hurd Installation Guide is very
rich in information and useful, but very scarying for newbies as me. In fact,
the instalation I did with Matthew's Easy Guide was more pleasant than others,
and a friend of mine didn't want to install GNU/Hurd with the long guide. =)

By the way, the Easy Guide says: "Any of the methods of booting a Debian 2.2
(potato) CD will work ...", but in my case it wasn't true. My PC cannot boot
from CD, and I tried to boot from boot/floopy images of GNU/Hurd and GNU/Linux,
and from M$-DOS without success. I could boot, but the installation menu is
different and I couldn't install the base system.

I hope be more useful and improve my english soon. =)
