cdrecord doesn't see my cdrw

Hi,
I've just returned and I saw this thread.  I had the same prob. but
thought I had to rebuild the kernel, I ran
'cdrecord -dev=ATAPI -scanbus' and got 'scsidev: 'ATAPI'
