Bug#218853: libc6-2.3.2.ds1-8/9 causes kernel panic during KDE startup
Package: libc6
Version: 2.3.2.ds1-9
Severity: critical
Tags: sid
Justification: breaks unrelated software
After upgrading to libc6-2.3.2-ds1-8, the computer locks up while starting KDE
in the Initializing Peripherals part of the startup. Up until this point,
the computer functions fine, including starting X (4.3.0-pre1v4) and KDM. If
I don't login through KDM, I can switch to a VT and am able to use dpkg to
downgrade to libc6-2.3.2-9. I tried again with ds1-9, but had the same
problem, so I again downgraded. I also tried switching to a VT after
starting the login process from KDM. This allowed me to see a kernel panic
occur, but it scrolled rapidly up the screen, and at the end of it there was
nothing I could do but reboot.
I am happy to upgrade to ds1-9 again to gather more info for you if you tell
me how to do so.
Everything on my system is from sid, except for the XFree86 from experimental.
I am using the 2.6.0-test9-1-386 kernel.
I filed this bug report against libc6 rather than kernel-2.6.0 since things
work fine with libc6-2.3.2-9.
