Hmm.. I have no idea. I don't recall having done anything that would explain
this. It would, however, explain why others aren't seeing such a catastrophic
failure when upgrading.
I just reinstalled the bash package, and it is now dynamically linked as
would be expected. And after an upgrade, the symptoms seem to have gone away.
I'll get brave and reboot in a little while. 8-)
I've saved the old executable in case it would prove useful as a test case
since there still seems to be issues with apps which were statically linked
with an older version of libc.
