Well, I would want a promise from the developers and an effort from
the developers to keep the promise before I would like to trust that
an API is stable.  Not sure if such promise have been made.  Are you?

The track record so far is that the API have changed during the period
of a Debian stable release (released at the start of last year), and
we do not really want to have to handle that for the next Debian
stable release, as it would leave obsolete packages in Lenny and no
way (or a lot of work) to get a fixed package past the stable release
managers.
