[DebianGIS] mapserver

Hi all.
Glad to see that, after a long quiet period, things are on track again.
Postgis and gdal are on their way to upgrade, and that's very good news.
The new Mapserver with much-needed php-mapscript, on the other hand, is still
locked out of testing because of the gdal/odbc issue pointed out by Steve et
al., and it is unclear when it will be available. Therefore I now decided to
compile it myself, and (given my ignorance) I'd like to ask for assistance:
- which is the best way to do it? I regularly use debian rules +
dpkg-buildpackage to compile my fresh versions of grass and qgis from cvs, so
this would be my preferred approach, but: where can I find the debian rules?
may I use the ones in the .deb? does anybody suggest a better approach?
- I tried with the apt-get source approach
(http://www.debian.org/doc/FAQ/ch-pkg_basics.en.html#s-sourcepkgs), but I got
stuck with the missing swig package; is there a way to solve this?
- is there anybody that has already prepared such a package, so that we can
use it as a temporary solution?
We really need it, and we're struggling with workarounds, but now I have to
solve this.
Many thanks for your help.
