Well, I don't know how libgc works. If it overrides new+delete, is is
probable that the problem comes from there. Otherwise I don't know. I'll
have a look at generated assembly code to find out.

Package g++ in woody does not provide the compiler itself.

As noted above, an installed header file requires one that is provided by
libgc*-dev.
