Bug#112887: gcc in alternatives?

Hmmm. This would of course be quite a heavy change in policy and require
all pkgs to be adapted: But how about having a system-gcc or debian-gcc
that is used by default when compiling with dpkg, thus leaving the 'gcc'
executable unused by the Debian system?

So, I could have gcc be whatever I use as a developer, but the debian
pkg system would still work.

just a thought. But perhaps this has been discussed to death before, my
apologies if so.
