For an example of this, look at libsdl1.2debian. See Bug#114808 for what
happened, and/or the libsdl1.2 changelog entry for version 1.2.2-3.1.

In this particular case, the symbols that got removed came from static
libraries that got somehow included in a shared library (which is ugly
and doesn't work on half our architectures).
