OK. Here's a good thought. Don't change cdrtools or cdrecord.
Instead, add something to the description field for Debian.
Something like:
The upstream author of cdrecord and cdrtools is also the author of
ProDVD and would prefer you to use this for burning DVD's. This
commercial software cannot be packaged for the Debian distribution
as it does not comply with our Debian Free Software Guidelines. It is
available from Joerg at <http address> but as a binary only release.
Free alternative software which meets the DFSG is available within
Debian, although functionality and capability may vary.
One alternative is dvdrecord.
Simple, straightforward and gets the message across - without hurting
anyone's feelings and making the position perfectly clear.
