Re bin being UID 1/1:

Our systems are legacy Slackware A-E set (or maybe mangle mode circa '94) 
converted to debian.  We've never gotten around to changing some of the < 100 
userids and still have bin as 2/2.  Not changing has not broken anything.

daemon:x:1:1:daemon:/usr/sbin:/bin/sh
bin:x:2:2:bin:/bin:/bin/sh
