Looks like so it can write to /var/games/spellcast/ as group games...
a high-score-file type deal?
If you take a look at bsdgames, a lot of the games in that package are
setgid to the games group; which makes sense, since a lot of older games
kept stats for all the users on the machines (presumably so that the
system administrator would have something to compete against ;)
