I have kernel 2.4.4, gnome-terminal 1.4.0.4-1, and bash 2.05-4.
My stty output is as dilinger's.
I'm not really sure what ^U is supposed to do. For me, it erases
everything LEFT of the cursor. The terminal is updated correctly.
