I've often considered writing a perl shell, actually.
I use zsh for scripting:
joey@paper:~>wc -l .zsh*
80 .zsh-dpkg
56 .zshenv
157 .zshrc
293 total
That's the only scripting I'll do with it, but there is some
medium-complexity detection code in there to set up my enviironment as I
like it.
