For the unstable dist its done something like this (excerpted from a
file named /u2/Makefile):
SRC=/ftp/debian
overrides:
rm -f *override* && \
cp -v $(SRC)/indices/override.hamm.* . && \
cp -v $(SRC)/indices/override.hamm.* .
gunzip *override.*.gz
slink: overrides
symlinks -dr $(SRC)/dists/slink
cd /ftp/debian && dpkg-scanpackages dists/unstable/contrib/binary-i386 \
/u2/override.hamm.contrib > \
dists/unstable/contrib/binary-i386/Packages
rm -f /ftp/debian/dists/unstable/contrib/binary-i386/Packages.gz
gzip -v9 /ftp/debian/dists/unstable/contrib/binary-i386/Packages
cd /ftp/debian && dpkg-scanpackages dists/unstable/non-free/binary-i386 \
/u2/override.hamm.non-free > \
dists/unstable/non-free/binary-i386/Packages
rm -f /ftp/debian/dists/unstable/non-free/binary-i386/Packages.gz
gzip -v9 /ftp/debian/dists/unstable/non-free/binary-i386/Packages
cd /ftp/debian && dpkg-scanpackages dists/unstable/main/binary-i386 \
/u2/override.hamm > \
dists/unstable/main/binary-i386/Packages
rm -f /ftp/debian/dists/unstable/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz
gzip -v9 /ftp/debian/dists/unstable/main/binary-i386/Packages
