Yes, that might solve the problem for /etc. This may cause problems,
though, because it would make the /etc dir on the server writable to
all other systems... unless there is a mechanism to prevent that, such
as "machine-wide-ACL" (just-created concept on my part, but that might
already exist somewhere ?). But, as standard ACL's are not yet part of
the official distribution, we might have to wait for that...
But otherwise, surely the transname system would work around the
general problem of updating the root filesystem...
