problemas al debianizar xfce4-mixer

Hola,

Estoy intentado por primera vez debianizar un .tar.gz, el programa en
cuestion es el mezclador de sonidos de XFce4, xfce4-mixer.
El problema que encuentro es que busca una de las dependencias (ya
instalada) en el path incorrecto (creo). Les pego el error que me tira:

checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking for xfce4-panel-1.0 >= 0.10.1... Package xfce4-panel-1.0 was
not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `xfce4-panel-1.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'xfce4-panel-1.0' found
configure: error: Library requirements (xfce4-panel-1.0 >= 0.10.1) not
met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your

Me estuve fijando y el xfce4-panel-1.0 lo tengo en /usr/bin/xfce4-panel
sin los numeritos.
¿como puedo hacer para solucionar esto?
