Not quite - you are allowed to copy YaST, you're just not allowed to
sell it.  They provide a lot of management tools which can be a good
thing if you don't know what you're doing but can be very confusing if 
you're experienced with Unix.  Apparently, you know you're really in
trouble when you're using the English language version but the error
messages come up in German.

They're the closest to Debian in terms of size - they ship on 6 CDs, but
that does include a fair whack of commercial demos and things.  The main
advantages Debian has over SuSE seem to be freedom (you won't find
yourself accidentally using a limited commercial demo) and more of a
Unix-like feel.

Just my experience - most of which has been in helping other people fix
their machines.
