There is no inconsistency in wanting kernel drivers that have gpl'd blobs to be included in Debian but want nvidia stuff to stay out of Debian. Nvidia in no way is considered to be even remotely free, if I remember correctly the license for it used to exclude distribution at all. Also in the nvidia case there is already a good enough 2D driver. There is no need to have either the free driver or the non-free driver during regular installation though. In fact in the Nvidia case its arguable that their driver is so buggy on a regular basis it would be bad for Debian's users to install it unless they need 3D support over stability. On the blobs under the gpl issue being non-free, its because they are considered not to be the preferred form of source. If the blobs are considered non-free we have no license to distribute the work at all, do we? Also any undocumented code is not the preferred form of code so should also be removed from the archive. The preferred form of code is code that can be easily understood and modified, undocumented code does not fit this definition either... Chris
